100 lb weight loss in total. 58 lbs since August of 2006 with Fitness Together!

I had hit a significant plateau for six months after losing the initial 40 lbs on my own. Fitness Together broke that plateau and it really started coming off quickly! I am down 16 dress sizes. I am most proud to carry my "before" pictures (I never am without them) to encourage others and show people it can be done.

Why did you decide to work out at Fitness Together?
I received a clever marketing letter in the mail that really spoke to me personally. After meeting the FT owner, Matt Thomas, I felt he could and would deliver the specific things the advertisement promised. They promised to focus on my goals, to uncover what was important to me and that I would be given accountability, encouragement and specific guidance to ensure I met my goals. Clearly, they have delivered!

What factor has been the most helpful to you in achieving your goal?
Being consistent. That means me and Fitness Together! Stay committed.

Additionally, I made some specific goals known (long and short term), put them in writing, and my trainer Matt stayed actively involved with those goals.

What tips do you have for others working toward their goals?
Change your thinking first! It’s a progression from, "I won't, I can't, I'd like to, I'll try, I can, I WILL"! A positive resolve of I WILL is 100% of getting things going and being determined to stay with it. Also, if you slip, it's just a slip! Don't be cruel to yourself, just move forward!

What are some of your future fitness goals?
The cover of People Magazine-their annual article Half Their Size so I can brag about Fitness Together.

I will continue my fitness and nutrition plan in order to lose an additional 40 lbs. and will keep these exciting habits (yes they are exciting and yes, they are now habits) for life!

How did you get started with FT?
Rebekah has always been health and fitness conscience and knew what she needed to do but had to have the accountability and the motivation to follow through with it. Right before she started Fitness Together she was working long hours at her job and started realizing she needed to do something for herself. She knew Nathan Toensing through her family and that he owned a personal training studio so decided to join.

What did you like about FT the most?
Rebekah needed the accountability to follow through with a consistent exercise plan. Fitness Together gave this to her and allowed fitness to become a lifestyle and something she missed when she wasn't able to work out regularly.

What do you credit your success?
"For about 3 years I was pouring my heart into a job working anywhere from 60 to 70 hours per week which turned into eating a lot of junk food, not spending anytime to care of myself, and gaining a lot of weight. The problem wasn't that I didn't know what to do it was that I didn't have the accountability, discipline, and motivation to follow-through with what I knew. The other problem was that going to a regular gym was completely unattractive to me. Then I discovered Fitness Together and it all came together. FT had expert trainers who really cared about my health and pinpointed my fitness and nutritional needs. They also gave me that accountability that was always missing as well as a close family atmosphere that made me feel I didn't want to let the trainers as well as myself down." - 2007

How did you get started with FT?
Three years ago Jeffrey started to realize his weight gain and knew he had to do something about it. Initially he signed up at a national "box" gym chain and hired a personal trainer. Although he benefited from the training and lost some weight over a year's time he felt he hit a wall and stopped training. After awhile he decided to get started again and was looking for personal training on the internet and found Fitness Together.

What did you like about FT the most? Jeffrey liked the small intimate setting. At the gym everything was impersonal and he didn't feel like he was being pushed by his trainer. At Fitness Together the trainers were constantly pushing and motivating him to achieve more by continuously reminding him of his goals. Jeffrey also liked the continuous tracking of his progress so he could see as well as feel the results.

What do you credit your success?
"Three years ago I came face to face with how much weight I have gained and decided to do something about it. At first I joined a national chain gym and got a personal trainer but after a short time I decided I wanted something more tailored to my needs and more personal. So I began searching for a different kind of fitness center and that's when I discovered Fitness Together. Immediately I was impressed with the personal trainers. It was like they knew exactly how hard to push me, something that was missing at the gym. I also liked the smaller sized areas. Fitness Together has that intimate setting where it felt like it was just me and another personal trainer and I didn't feel like I was on display like I did at the gym. As for my results it was really all these things coming together as well as my internal motivation that helped me stay focused and motivated." - 2007



Robyn - Robyn lost 21 pounds, 21 inches and 7% body fat in just 9 weeks.

What do you credit your success?
Since I started college and especially medical school, I have struggled with my weight. I have always been very athletic and tried to eat healthy even as a college student, but for some reason, no matter how much I worked out and watched what I ate, I continued to put on weight.

This fall, I came to Virginia to stay with my cousin so I could prepare for part one of the USMLE. My cousin signed me up at Fitness Together to go through their weight loss program. I was skeptical before, because I had been working out for years and had not had any results. But, since she was willing to pay for the program, I agreed to give it a shot. I could not believe that after 7 years I was finally able to lose weight! In just 9 weeks I lost 21 inches, 21 pounds and 7% body fat.

What do you owe to your success? The staff at Fitness Together were so knowledgeable about nutrition and exercise. They designed a complete program around my schedule and my needs. They helped me design meals that were easy and quick without taking long hours to prepare.

My routine consisted of getting up every day at 8:00 am and studying for my medical exam until 8:00 pm. I would make sure I ate the meals they suggested every 3 - 4 hours. At the end of the day I would complete 45 minutes of a cardio program they had designed for me. I worked out with my trainer using free weights two times a week. My Fitness Together certified trainer designed a custom program for my body type and my goals. In addition, my trainer took time to show me how to maximize my weight loss by using the proper program design technique and form. My workouts were always fun, and challenging!

I learned so much while I was at Fitness Together. I realized that although I had workout before, I was not doing the right program to get the results I wanted. I have continued my workout since returning to my home in Florida. I am working smarter, not harder.. and since then I have lost an additional 2% body fat and 5 pounds of fat while maintaining my lean mass. My total weight loss as of today is 26 pounds and 10% body fat in 12 weeks!

Pam - I have been on some type of diet for the pass 20 years. I have also tried working out at a gym and at home and I couldn't really develop the type of dedication needed to stick with any type of program. I was continuing to gain weight, my cholesterol was high and at the age of 54 I felt like I was 70. One day I was reading the Old Bridge Observer and I notice an advertisement that read "one client, one trainer, one goal" come in for a free training session. Since it was close to home I decided to call. I had a free session with Linda and joined that day. Since that day in May I have been working with a trainer and have I have lost weight, inches and body fat.

Just recently I started working out at a local gym. In the past, this usually didn't work for me. I always felt intimidated by all the equipment and I was very uncomfortable trying to figure out what machines to use and how to use them. This time when I walked in, I felt very confident and was able to workout without feeling inadequate. I know what machines work what muscles and where and what it should feel like. I have also developed a strong desire to work out regularly, which I could never get to this stage. I enjoy going to my gym now, thanks to the personal trainers at Fitness Together.

No matter what I plan to do in life, I know that cardiovascular exercise and weight training will always be part of my life goals.

Ellen - The scale told me my weight had been stable for years but my body and clothes told me otherwise. I've followed a low fat diet for about 20 years and walked for aerobic exercise throughout the week to maintain my weight at the low end of the range. I joined Fitness Together to improve my body composition and increase strength since my way wasn't contributing to either. My customized training program at Fitness Together is challenging, invigorating and, most of all, fun. It's never the same work out twice. My personal trainers are great motivators. I have achieved much more than I thought possible, thanks to them. I never thought that I'd be able to bench press half my weight, and in only four weeks. The tailored nutrition program has eliminated daily "got to have some chocolate" cravings. The mid-morning and mid-afternoon energy lows are gone. Now I gauge fitness and progress toward my goals in much more revealing and accurate ways than what the scale says. In the first month I've lost 2.1% body fat and 6.5 inches without starving or exercising to exhaustion. I have so much more energy, stamina, strength and a better outlook.



Kelly - I am a 37 year old mom of two and a former college basketball player, who now has high BP and a few pounds to lose. After encouragement from my husband I considered joining a gym and hiring a personal trainer. I saw an article about FT and thought it sounded like the change I needed. Being a former college basketball player I have always had someone to push me to my physical limits, and FT matched my expectations. From my very first day in FT I have always loved the fact that I am the focus of my workout, and I am always pushed beyond what I could achieve by myself.. Carol S. Shapiro, MD - I went to Linda, the owner of Fitness Together, two months before I had a hip replacement. I had hopes of losing weight and strengthening upper body muscles and leg muscles to make my recovery easier and faster. I lost a few pounds and did so well with my program that the physical therapist was ready to discharge me from their program after my second week.

Linda came to my home and met with the therapist so that she could continue my post-rehab training. I returned to Fitness Together one month after the surgery and my progress has been incredible. I have no pain, can walk on a treadmill, and go up and down steps with no difficulty. I am doing exercises in the gym that I never thought I would be able to do.

My progress is most gratifying. Thus far I have lost 30 pounds, lost 18% body fat, gained strength and stamina. I feel great! I look forward to every session because it is so rewarding.
